The June Lake
Loop in the Fall -

i
s an incredibly beautiful
drive during the autumn
months, and the quaking
aspen plays an important
role in all this beauty. The
aspen typically are 10-60
feet in height, and 10 or
more inches in diameter.
They grow at elevations (in
the Sierra's) from
5000-8000 feet, depending
on whether they are in the
southern or northern area
of the region. Aspens are
often referred to as
quaking, and this is due to
the leaves having flattened
petioles that quiver in a
light breeze. This is what
makes the pleasant rustling
sound known as "Quaking"
